Resources for COVID Rehabilitation Research
An online community for Canadian COVID-19 researchers for collaboration and communication of research and events.
A patient-engagement framework that outlines key opportunities for action, setting the stage for worthwhile collaborations in the identification of health research priorities as well as in the design and conduct of research projects.
A published Framework of Research Priorities in COVID Rehabilitation, developed by the Rehabilitation Science Research Network for COVID, and collaborators, through 5 consultations. This Framework of Research Priorities in COVID Rehabilitation provides a foundation to advance COVID-19 and Long COVID disability and rehabilitation research to promote the health and well-being of persons with COVID-19, Long COVID, and their caregivers. The Framework may be used by researchers, clinicians, trainees, and members of the community to inform future COVID rehabilitation research.
Website with resources for Occupational Therapists on working with patients with Long COVID.
- Patient-Led Research Scorecards – Patient-Led Research Collaborative and Council of Medical Specialty Societies
Scorecards to evaluate how effective a patient group and research partner collaboration will be at conducting patient-led research. These scorecards can demonstrate how patient groups and research partners can improve their inclusion of patients in the research process, and lead to improved outcomes. There are 3 scorecards that evaluate: Research Organization Readiness; Patient Burden; and Patient-Partner Governance.
- Research Involvement Consultancy - Long COVID Support
Consultancy service by Long COVID Support on how to engage patients and community members living with Long COVID in research.
The vocational rehabilitation roadmap has been developed specifically for people living with Long COVID, to guide a clinician through the process of identifying and helping someone to overcome some of the various work-related obstacles caused by Long Covid symptoms and/or the workplace.
A published article that describes an international consultation on priorities for long COVID and rehabilitation with people living with long COVID, clinicians, researchers, and other key interest-holders (referred to collectively as “consultants”) who registered for and attended the Long COVID Physio International Forum. This analysis resulted in 17 priorities for long COVID overlapping and spanning 4 categories: a) research (epidemiology, socioeconomics, pathophysiology, characterizing disability, health equity, establishing diagnostic criteria, intervention studies); b) education (for people living with long COVID, employers, policy makers, and health care professional students); c) clinical practice (safety, person-centered approaches); and d) policy (accessibility of care, supports for people living with long COVID and caregivers, public health messaging).
This editorial is based on a roundtable discussion on "Return to Work for People Living with Long COVID" that occurred at the 2nd Canadian Symposium on Long COVID in Edmonton, Alberta in October 2024 presented by Long COVID Web. Clinicians, researchers, policymakers, and persons with lived experience discussed barriers for return to work for individuals with Long COVID, in addition to factors enabling success and proposed solutions.
